Egypt's presidency has announced a significant agreement between Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to deepen trade and investment cooperation. Notably, both leaders called for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing the need for stability in the region.

In a statement issued by the presidency on Tuesday, 15th, disclosed that during the visit by the Crown Prince, the two leaders reviewed efforts to develop economic partnership between Cairo and Riyadh particularly in investment, trade and economic integration in the energy, transport and tourism sectors.

Historically, Saudi Arabia has supported Egypt financially, but is now shifting focus toward investment rather than direct aid. Therefore, there discussions come amid speculation about potential Saudi investments in Egypt, which has seen significant external financing this year, including a record $35 billion deal with the UAE's sovereign fund, ADQ.

A significant aspect of the discussions was the situations in Gaza and Lebanon. Both leaders stressed the urgent need for steps toward achieving calm, including a ceasefire in both regions.

This commendable move is a beacon of hope amid a deteriorating and volatile situation in the middle East. The leaders signed an agreement to protect mutual investments and established a supreme coordination council aimed at fostering economic partnerships, particularly in energy, transport and tourism. Their discussions included crucial regional developments, particularly the escalating conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, where they urged immediate steps to achieve calm through a ceasefire.

CDS Africa recognizes and commends this proactive stance and urges all parties involved to adhere to the ceasefire proposals and respect the United Nation Charters on peace and the sanctity of human life. The recent warnings from the United States regarding military support for Israel underline the international community's growing concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, highlighting the urgency of implementing effective ceasefire measures.

As Egypt navigates its own economic challenges, seeking significant investments to stabilize its economy, the cooperation with Saudi Arabia represents not only a strategic financial partnership but also a vital step toward fostering peace in a troubled region. It is essential that all stakeholders prioritize dialogue and respect for human dignity while working towards lasting solutions.
